Bell's A.M.E. Church History

In 1873, according to Caroline County Land Records Book 35, pages 399 -400, George W. Taylor and his wife Margaret A. Taylor deeded to Trustees in Trust, Charles Wayman, Louis Cook and William Done for $10.00, ½ acre parcel for a Church. Thereafter in 1874, recorded history shows that Bishop A. W. Wayman served the articles of incorporation for Bells Chapel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church stating “Sunday October 4 th 1874, found near the place where I was born. “Tuckahoe”, and there I dedicated a new Church called Deep Branch and later would be called “Bells Chapel AME”. We are 149 years old and still worshipping, serving and praising God Hallelujah! We continue to be an active member in the community taking on feeding the homeless, supplying the local shelters with necessities, providing college

scholarships, visiting the sick, and seeking the lost to save souls.
